Bankruptcy Court is a body of the federal government that allows debtors to file petitions for debt relief or forgiveness when they are not able to pay their debts as promised. This enables the people to get out of the huge debt and prevent them from other adverse effects like worry about the threatening calls from the creditors, mental suffering etc. some of terms associated with the bankruptcy courts are:
- Means testing: the debtors must pass the means test in order to qualify for the type of bankruptcy which has been filed by the debtor.
- Bankruptcy Trustee: each division of the court has trustee who are lawyers or accountants that supervise each case. These professionals check all the paperwork.
- Fees: some fee is associated with the process that has to be submitted by the debtor. Each court also has provision to allow installment to the very badly affected debtors.
- Meeting of creditors: each debtor who files a case of bankruptcy has to attend the meeting of creditors. This when creditors can show up to dispute a bankruptcy case.
- Credit Counseling: bankruptcy filler is encouraged to attend a counseling session and provide the proof of completion of session to the court before applying for bankruptcy.
